The annual-service rule comes from European manuals where ACs run two months a year in mild climates. Pakistan is a different planet. Our schedule needs to match our weather, not a translated brochure.
Karachi: coastal salt air corrodes outdoor coils faster than anywhere else in Pakistan. Combined with five months of heavy use (May–September), Karachi homes need a full service every six months — once before summer (March–April) and once in October once the load drops.
Lahore: dust is the enemy. Punjab winds carry fine particulate that clogs filters and coils within weeks. Same six-month schedule, with an extra mid-summer filter clean in July if dust storms have been bad.
Islamabad and Pindi: milder summers, less dust, more pollen. A full service every nine to twelve months is usually enough, plus a filter rinse every two months in heavy-use season.
Year-round monthly DIY: regardless of city, rinse the indoor filter every month during the season you are using the AC. This single habit accounts for the largest gain.
Pre-summer prep (April): book the full service before May. Technicians get fully booked once the heat hits and prices spike. April is the calm window.
Signs you need an unscheduled service: weak airflow, weird smells (musty = drain pan, chemical = electrical), ice forming on the indoor coils, water dripping inside the room from the vent, or the AC tripping the breaker. Any of these means do not wait — call.
